Frequently asked questions about eBook Chessvision

Can I use the Reader on my phone or tablet?

Yes, the Reader is fully mobile-friendly and all features are available on both desktops and mobiles. On smaller devices like phones in portrait orientation, the book view and analysis view are in separate tabs. On larger devices like tablets, the view matches the desktop layout. To use on mobile, open https://ebook.chessvision.ai in your mobile browser.

Can I resize the analysis board?

Yes, you can resize the Analysis Board by dragging its edge with a mouse or finger on mobile. Hover over the edge until the resize cursor appears, then drag it to adjust the size however you like.

Can I export all diagrams to a single PGN?

Bulk export is not available at the moment. However, you can use the Study Creator to select specific diagrams you want to export, then easily export them as PGN or PDF. Bulk export may be added in the future, which would require the app to correctly predict whose turn it is for all diagrams.

Why is the newest Stockfish version not available?

The extension uses the embedded Lichess analysis board which can only be embedded in a limited way: Stockfish 10+ WASM, no NNUE, and limited engine options. When you need newer Stockfish versions or NNUE, click the Share button above the analysis board and select Lichess.org to open the diagram directly in Lichess analysis where all options are available.

How does the diagram search work?

You can search chess diagrams in your books using various filters accessible from the Menu under Search Diagrams. You can search by exact FEN, opening name and variation, game phase, and themes like doubled pawns or opposite-side castling. The search opens the book on the exact page where the diagram appears. Free accounts are limited to the first 20 search results.

How do I add comments to diagrams?

Click the comment icon just above the chessboard to add comments to diagrams. Comments are automatically saved. An orange indicator on the icon means a diagram has a comment. Comments are also exported when using the Study Creator.

How do I access my uploaded books?

Open the My Documents page from the Menu in the top-right corner, then click the Open button near the book you want to open. This gives you access to all your uploaded books across all devices, whether desktop or mobile, like cloud storage. You can also search for books by title, pin frequently used books to the top, and rename books for better organization.

What is the Study Creator feature?

Study Creator lets you select diagrams you want from your books and export them to either PGN or PDF format. Export to PGN is useful for creating Lichess studies, while PDF export is helpful for chess teachers preparing exercises for students. You can add diagrams to Study Creator, then export them in your preferred format.

How does the YouTube video feature work?

The Reader automatically searches for YouTube videos matching the diagrams in your books. When you double-click a diagram, a YouTube icon appears if videos are found. Clicking it shows all YouTube chess videos for that particular position, and you can watch videos jumping to the exact moment where the position is explained.

Is the eBook processed multiple times?

No, each eBook is processed only once. After the initial processing finishes, every time you open it subsequently, it is ready to use immediately without reprocessing. The app uses Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence to find and recognize diagrams in the books during that first processing.
