What is Reticle?
Reticle is a fast native desktop application (built with Tauri/Rust) that lets infrastructure operators spatially view their servers on a real-world map alongside submarine cables, IXPs, cloud regions, backbone routes, fiber, data centers, and satellite orbits. The app provides live SSH terminals to reach servers directly from the map, enabling operators to see the whole internet and act on any server without context switching.
Key features include YAML-driven configuration where you define servers, actions, crons, and custom layers in a single config.yaml file that is git-trackable, auditable, and reviewable in PRs. Cron health checks schedule SSH commands every 30s, 5m, or 1h, with server markers turning red when checks fail so you know before users do. The live SSH terminals offer fullscreen xterm.js with PTY-backed SSH and full ANSI color support. Custom layers allow overlaying your own GeoJSON files like site surveys, planned routes, and coverage polygons.
Reticle is built for infrastructure operators, homelab enthusiasts, solo operators managing side projects, and operator teams who need shared visibility. It is local-first and private with no data leaving your machine, no telemetry, no accounts, and no cloud dependency. The entire app is a 15MB binary with a Rust backend and zero telemetry. Pricing model: Freemium
Personal tier is free for individual operators with unlimited servers, live SSH terminals, cron health checks, all map layers including built-in and custom GeoJSON, fiber and submarine cable overlays, YAML configuration, dark and light themes, and no account required. Team tier is $12/seat/month or $120/seat/year with a 14-day free trial, including shared team map and config sync, role-based access (viewer vs operator), alerting integrations (Slack, Discord, PagerDuty, Opsgenie), audit log, team management dashboard, and priority support. Enterprise tier is custom pricing and includes everything in Team plus SSO/OIDC integration, REST API, custom integrations, on-prem deployment, and SLA guarantee.

Frequently asked questions about Reticle
Does Reticle send any data to the cloud?
No. Reticle is completely local-first. SSH connections go directly from your machine to your servers. Config is stored locally. No telemetry, no accounts, no phone home. Operators trust what they can audit.
What authentication methods are supported for SSH?
Reticle assumes SSH key-based authentication. Your existing ~/.ssh/config and keys work out of the box. No passwords are stored or transmitted.
Are custom GeoJSON layers free?
Yes. All map layers — built-in infrastructure layers and your own custom GeoJSON overlays — are included in the free Personal tier. No feature gates on the map.
How do cron health checks work?
You define a bash command and an interval (e.g. 60s, 5m, 1h) in your YAML config. Reticle runs it over SSH on schedule. If the command exits non-zero, the server turns red on the map.
What platforms are supported?
macOS (Apple Silicon & Intel), Windows, and Linux. The app is built with Tauri (Rust) so it's a native binary — no Electron, no Chromium overhead.
Can I use this without YAML — just the UI?
Yes. You can add servers, actions, and crons from the UI. The YAML file is always the source of truth — edits in the UI write to YAML, and external edits are picked up automatically.
What's the difference between Personal and Team?
Personal is free for individual operators — one person, one config, no account needed. Team adds shared maps, config sync, role-based access (viewer vs operator), alerting integrations, and audit logging for when your whole team needs to see and act on the same infrastructure.
How do I get started with Reticle?
Download the app, add your servers to config.yaml with their name, host, user, latitude, longitude, and optional crons, and see them appear on the map. That's it — you can start operating in 30 seconds.

What escape key behavior is available in the SSH terminal?
The terminal supports escape to close. You can also zoom the font with Cmd/Ctrl + or -. The terminal offers fullscreen xterm.js with PTY-backed SSH and full ANSI color support.
