- Automatic fast-scroll detection eliminates manual summary requests
- Single-pass generation supporting multiple formats (paragraph or numbered points) with zero re-processing cost when switching layouts
- Built-in term explanation feature (Feynman pill) for undefined concepts in your selected passage or recap
- Direct multilingual generation produces recaps in your chosen language without separate translation step
Skim Recap cons
- Requires initial model download and local caching of Gemma 4, consuming device storage
- Chrome extension only — limited to Chrome browser
- Explanations can be inaccurate because they go beyond the page content, unlike recaps which are strictly bounded by what the page says
Frequently asked questions about Skim Recap
Is my reading data sent to a server?
No. Skim Recap runs entirely locally using Gemma 4 through LiteRT-LM. Nothing you read leaves the browser.
How does it know what I skipped?
The extension detects fast scroll gestures, estimates the passage you skipped, and generates a recap for that specific text.
Can I get explanations for terms I don't understand?
Yes. In v0.4, select any phrase on the page or in a recap and a Feynman explanation appears, though it may extend beyond what the page actually defined.
What languages does it support?
You can select a recap language from the popup. Recaps are written directly in your chosen language in one pass rather than translated afterward.
