What is Civils.ai?
Civils.ai is an AI-powered platform designed specifically for construction and civil engineering teams to automate quantity takeoffs, data extraction, and compliance checks from construction documents. The tool uses specialized AI agents trained on over 100,000 construction datasets to accurately measure areas, lengths, volumes, and counts from PDF drawings including scanned and historic documents. Users upload PDFs, type their measurement scope in plain English, and receive annotated PDFs and Excel exports with human QA review ensuring 97% accuracy on takeoffs.
Key features include automated quantity takeoffs for earthworks, drainage, concrete, landscaping, and utilities; geotechnical report analysis that extracts borehole data and visualizes subsurface conditions; AI contract and specification review that identifies risks, exclusions, and obligations with citations to exact pages; unlimited AI searches across uploaded document libraries; reusable workflow templates for repeatable compliance checks; and export capabilities to Excel, annotated PDFs, and Power BI dashboards. The platform works on web browsers across desktops, tablets, and mobile phones.
Civils.ai is built for estimators, quantity surveyors, civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, pre-construction teams, and construction contractors who need accurate takeoffs without compromising on quality. It serves over 200 firms across 8 countries including companies like JTC, Costain, Meinhardt, and Penta Ocean. The platform supports $3 billion+ in projects and is designed for teams who want AI assistance but cannot afford errors, with built-in quality assurance and auditability for every answer.

Frequently asked questions about Civils.ai
How does Civils.ai count a takeoff?
One takeoff equals one takeoff on one drawing sheet (up to 1:250 scale) for one trade. Landscaping on one sheet counts as 1 takeoff. Landscaping areas plus utilities on the same sheet counts as 2 takeoffs. The same trade across 3 sheets counts as 3 takeoffs. One trade on one sheet from 1:250 to 1:500 scale counts as 2 takeoffs. For multi-trade takeoffs, charges are capped at 5 takeoffs per drawing sheet.
Are Civils.ai searches unlimited?
Yes, under fair use (one person, one account). This covers standard in-app AI searches, document Q&A, and compliance checks. Multi-step agent workflows that go beyond standard searches may be priced separately on a custom basis. The vendor always scopes and confirms any custom pricing in advance.
What happens when I reach my takeoff allowance?
You will be notified when you reach your allowance with no surprise bills. You can either top up or upgrade to the next tier to continue using the service.
Who owns my data and documents?
You retain full ownership of all data and documents you upload. Your data is used only to process your requests and is never used to train models or shared with any third party. You can delete your data at any time from inside the platform or by contacting Civils.ai directly.
Where is my data stored?
Data is stored on vetted enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure with TLS in transit and best-practice encryption at rest. Your project documents are completely isolated to your account - no other users, clients, or third parties can access them. Enterprise plans include a custom DPA and security review.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes, Starter and Professional plans are month-to-month and can be cancelled from your dashboard at any time. You keep access until the end of your billing period and can export all your data. Enterprise contracts have terms agreed in advance.
Does Civils.ai support single sign-on?
Yes, on the Enterprise plan. Civils.ai supports SSO/SAML, custom data-processing agreements, security questionnaires, and procurement reviews. Contact sales to scope your requirements.
What payment methods are accepted?
All major credit and debit cards are accepted via their payment processor. Bank transfer and invoicing are available on Enterprise plans.
What document types does Civils.ai handle for contract review?
Civils.ai handles construction contracts (NEC, JCT, FIDIC), employer's requirements, specifications, drawings and codes of practice in PDF format, whether scanned or digital. Every answer comes back with citations to the exact pages and sections.
Can I reuse workflows for multiple contracts?
Yes. Build a workflow once - a list of questions, risks or compliance checks - then re-run it against every new contract or tender pack you receive. This standardizes reviews for bidding, tender compliance and contract onboarding.
